What does it take to be a Tutor? Patience and perseverance come to mind. It can be frustrating for both the child and the tutor if the child just can’t seem to catch on to what you are trying to teach. A tutor’s biggest reward is seeing the AHA in the student’s face. At The Tutoring Center here in Orlando, Florida, we strive to see that moment when a student makes the connection.

Collecting Data

A child is continuously collecting data from the world around him. Putting a use to the data by making connections fuel new ideas and creative thinking. The job of a tutor is to provide data and gently guide the child in the use of this data to create the AHA moment. Awareness, cognizance, realization, discovery, also known as Eureka!

Examples of the AHA Moment

Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple computers was quoted as saying, “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.” Bill Gates, the owner of Microsoft had an AHA moment when he realized he had to sell his product before making it. He was the first entrepreneur ever to market his product in this way.

When it HITS!

Encouraging an AHA moment takes time. A child must hear and see a concept in many various ways where at some point the AHA moment hits him. You will know the child understands the point well when he can take the concept and make up his own problems.

Help increase your child’s attention span and create and AHA moment. Call The Tutoring Center in Orlando, Florida for an assessment. (407) 286-2389 or e-mail Orlando2FL@TutoringCenter.com. If you are interested in becoming a tutor at one of our Tutoring Centers, take a look at our application.
