SAT Prep in Dr. Phillips, Florida

07/17/2015
Today we have a fun and educational activity for you and your child to do this summer. Next time your child wants to go out and play, go with them. Help them create a whole solar system using chalk. This can keep them busy for hours and peak their interest in astronomy.

Chalk Solar System

For this activity you will need a bucket of chalk in all sorts of different colors. Go over the different planets and the order they are in in our solar system. You can even go over how big the different planets are. If you want to get technical, you can start drawing moons and dwarf planets.

Drawing the Solar System

Start with drawing the Sun and work your way out to the different planets in our solar system. The solar system is separate by the inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. The outer solar system consists of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Add in the dwarf planet Pluto for good measure.

Taking it Further

One night, take your child outside to see the stars. It is easy to see the Earth's moon at night. But on some nights you can see some of the planets at night as well. Check to see when Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn are visible. Contact Dr. Phillips at The Tutoring Center today. We offer one-on-one tutoring all year long.
